Drug and alcohol testing
UKASSA offers a fully comprehensive range of drug and alcohol testing services. Once a drug and alcohol policy is in place many organisations can benefit from having access to testing and screening services.
Companies need to carefully consider their objectives for introducing testing measures prior to the implementation of a drug and alcohol testing program. Under section 8 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, an employer who knowingly permits drugs to be used in the workplace could be vulnerable to prosecution. However, an employer could also be liable to prosecution under anti-discrimination laws for targeting drug testing at a particular group or for implementing drug testing in a discriminatory way.
A large number of organisations such as those operating in safety critical sectors including transport and logistics, manufacturing and production, construction and public transportation are encouraged by provisions in health and safety laws and often benefit markedly by having drug and alcohol testing procedures in place. Companies who have implemented drug and alcohol testing report that there are benefits for safety, efficiency, reputation and employee welfare.
Increasing numbers of British employers are identifying drug and alcohol use as a problem for them, including many companies outside of the safety-critical sector.
UKASSA can offer organisations:
- Pre employment screening
- Post incident or “For Cause” testing
- Random testing
